Age of Majority in Pakistan

Age of Majority in Pakistan:

The age of majority in Pakistan is when a person becomes physically an adult. Many countries have set a number defining when a person will be considered an adult. Generally, it is 18 years of age, but in Pakistan, there are two types of age. One is the legal age, which is also 18 years, and the second is the age of majority, which is different for everyone. The age of majority is when a person comes to an age when he or she is physically grown up. Every child grows up differently. The age of majority is therefore different for every child. Some children grow at the age of 13 or may be 14, but some don’t even grow after the age of eighteen years. The age of majority is now only used for couples for nikah, or court marriage, in Pakistan.

The Age of Majority in Different Provinces:

Pakistan has four provinces. All the provinces have set an age for marriage now, which is eighteen years of age. Only the province of Punjab has set the age of majority for the purpose of marriage in Pakistan. Many times, the lawmakers have tried to set up a fixed age of eighteen years of marriage, but they never succeed in passing the bill. For the marriage certificate in Pakistan, the age is eighteen years for all the provinces except Punjab. The age of majority in Pakistan for marriage is now only used in the Punjab province. In Punjab, males and females can be married even when they are under the age of eighteen. In Punjab, the age of majority is required to marry.

Age of Majority for Every Children:

The age of majority is different for every child; therefore, sometimes complaints come up regarding child marriage. It is difficult to check if a child has reached the age of majority in Pakistan or not. When couples do online marriage in Pakistan, later on they complain that they were not adults when they got married. It is required to fix an age to remove the ambiguity of legal age and the age of majority.

Main Purpose:

For the purpose of nikahnama registration in Pakistan, the age required is eighteen, but in Punjab, a person below the age of eighteen can also marry. This thing gives rise to legal complications in the future. All the provinces should have the same law. When you get married in Pakistan and go abroad, they don’t recognize your marriage certificate from Pakistan, and they say how you got married at the age of a minority.

  • Most of the countries sometimes reject the visa only on this ground. There should be equal laws all over the country. The majority of the countries in the world follow the rule of eighteen years. Even in Pakistan, all the provinces have the same law except the Punjab province. There should be uniformity between the laws.
