Is Court Marriage Legal in Pakistan?

This is the question that some of the people ask us. Yes! Court marriage is completely legal in Pakistan. In the court marriage procedure in Pakistan, the legal procedure is followed, and the marriage is done according to the law. The law also provides legal protection to the spouse. It is one of the positive points that legal protection is given to the spouse during the services. Something legal means that it is permitted by the law. The law permits the services of court marriage, so we can say that court marriage is legal in Pakistan. To avail the services, you need to hire the services of a lawyer in Pakistan. Ø  ID CARD COPIES:

ID card copies of both the bride and the groom are required. Only those who are above eighteen years old can get married in Pakistan, except for those who are getting married in the Punjab province. In Punjab, the age of marriage for females is the age of puberty, so in Punjab, marriage can also be done without an ID card copy.

Ø  PASSPORT COPY:

If you are getting married to a foreigner, then the passport copy of the foreigner will be required. In the Pakistani marriage certificate, the passport number and the nationality of the foreigner are mentioned; therefore, these entries are taken from the passport. You also need to provide the visa page of the foreigner.

Ø  DIVORCE CERTIFICATE:

If you are divorced and doing a court marriage, then you need to attach the Nadra divorce certificate. This certificate is proof that you are now divorced. If the bride or the groom is single, then only ID card copies are required. In the case of divorced couples, the divorce certificate is mandatory.

Ø FIRST WIFE PERMISSION:

If the male is doing a second marriage, then, as per the law, the male has to provide the permission certificate of the first wife. In Pakistan, a male can do more than one marriage, but is subject to the permission of the previous wife or wives. If you don’t have the permission certificate, you may contact our law firm.

Ø FOREIGN DIVORCE DECREE:

If you are divorced abroad, then you have to attach the divorce decree from abroad. The foreign court divorce decree is valid in Pakistan. However, if a Pakistani national gets divorced abroad, then, as per the law, he also has to get the Nadra divorce certificate in Pakistan.

Ø PROOF OF AGE:

In case any bride or groom doesn’t have the national identity card, then he or she can use any document showing his or her date of birth. For example, you can use your passport, driving license, birth certificate, educational degree, etc. Anything that shows your date of birth can be used for the marriage in Pakistan.
